As a trusted Kansas City lighting, irrigation, and drainage company, we know that when spring arrives, homeowners in the Leawood, Overland Park, Olathe, and surrounding areas want their lawns to be lush, beautiful, and attention-grabbing. Spring is here, and it’s time to bring your beautiful landscape out of hiding! While temperatures haven’t warmed up too much yet, it won’t be just a few days before homeowners will be out mowing their lawns, trimming the shrubs, adding mulch to the flower beds (or even a few new plants), and generally sprucing everything up.
If you haven’t given your lawn much attention so far this spring, it’s time! Before you tend to anything else, focus on removing the winter debris from your lawn such as sticks, limbs, leaves, and everything that could get in the way of mowing. Next, you’ll want to mow the lawn, even if it doesn’t look like it needs mowing at this point. Mowing the dead grass from the top lets your grass breathe and get more sun, essential for a healthy lawn.
Next you’ll want to apply a pre-emergent weed control so those pesky weeks don’t take over your lawn this spring and summer season; fertilizing with a good product is a good idea as well. This should be done soon, at least by mid April for best results. In the Kansas City area, homeowners have lush, perfectly manicured lawns, not “yards” as they are often referred to. There IS a difference!
Do you have a quality Kansas City sprinkler system installed to handle your watering needs this summer? If you don’t, you may want to consider getting one installed so that watering tasks can be taken care of automatically, and you can control how much water specific areas of your lawn get so you don’t have to worry about over or under-watering. In addition, if you have drainage issues, you may want to get that taken care of. Poor drainage can affect not only your grass and plants, but your home as well!
It won’t be long before you’ll be sitting on the deck or patio, enjoying beautiful warm weather, your Kansas City landscape and the company of friends or neighbors as you sip a glass of tea, or perhaps an adult beverage. Be sure your landscape is up to par, and while you enjoy the view from the patio, others will enjoy the view from the roadways. Trust IDL Company, Kansas City’s premier provider of landscape lighting, sprinkler systems, and irrigation/drainage services for all of your needs.
